Pope Leo XIV is closely following the path of the late Pope Francis on church teaching regarding the environment. He emphasized the need for a “true ecological conversion” in a speech he delivered on October 1st, 2025 at the start of The Raising Hope for Climate Justice conference. The conference was organized by the Laudato si' Movement in collaboration with the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Caritas Internationalis, CIDSE, UISG, the Focolare Movement, and the Ecclesial Networks Alliance.
To hope in a biblical context does not mean to stand still and quiet, but to act, pray, change, and reconcile with Creation and the Creator in unity, openness and change of heart, and solidarity. Stay tuned to hear about events in our Archdiocese this fall that address the topic of raising hope for social and ecological justice. On Saturday, October 18 at the 12:15p.m. Mass at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica, Fr. Anthony Aguka will help us explore our love for Creation and how this impacts how we live. All are welcome!
“God will ask us if we have cultivated and cared for the world He created and for our brothers and sisters. What will we answer?” – Pope Leo XIV
