Peace for Ukraine
February 24 marks the 4th Anniversary of the war in Ukraine. We continue to hear the sounds of explosions and air raid sirens as Ukraine is experiencing an all-out assault from the Russian army and have become victims of acts of military aggression that have brought pain, fear and destruction. May February 24 be a day to provide solidarity, prayers and support for the people of Ukraine. May all parishes join together in praying for peace.
Each year as Lent begins Development and Peace Caritas Canada starts it’s Share Lent campaign. This year’s campaign, “On Track For Justice”, supports the work of Brazilian partner, Justice on the Rails. They assist communities impacted by pollution, environmental degradation and damage to their homes due to the transportation of minerals from a mine in Parà accross 892 kilometers to a port in Maranhnno.
Pope Leo XIV is closely following the path of the late Pope Francis on church teaching regarding the environment. He emphasized the need for a “true ecological conversion” in a speech he delivered on October 1st, 2025 at the start of The Raising Hope for Climate Justice conference. The conference was organized by the Laudato si' Movement in collaboration with the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Caritas Internationalis, CIDSE, UISG, the Focolare Movement, and the Ecclesial Networks Alliance.
