The Communications Office of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth supports the vision and mission the Archbishop to spread the Good News
in the central and southwestern regions of Nova Scotia. This is done through a variety of media that includes print, electronic publications and website
to name a few. For more information or to contact the Communications Office see the contact information on the side of this page.

The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth has partnered with the Nova Scotia government to offer a temporary homeless shelter in the basement of the former Saint Patrick’s Church on Brunswick St. in downtown Halifax. The shelter has 25 beds and will offer two meals a day, sleeping kits, washrooms, showers, laundry facilities and communal space. The day to day operations of the shelter will be overseen by Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission.

Last week the Vatican announced that Pope Francis appointed Most Rev. Richard Smith presently the Archbishop of Edmonton, to become the Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Many here in the local Church of Halifax -Yarmouth are familiar with Archbishop Smith as he is from Halifax and began his ministry here. Recently we welcomed him home in October 2024 as one of the speakers at our Eucharistic Congress.
Pastoral Letter on the Use of Social Media

Last January the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) wrote a pastoral letter on the use of social media entitled: “Let Your Speech Always be Gracious” (pdf). On the one-year anniversary of the publication of the Pastoral Letter on the use of social media, the CCCB has launched a new video series and other resources to help unpack the rich pastoral and moral insights of the Pastoral Letter more fully. A series of five videos on different aspects of the letter have been posted in English and French on the CCCB’s YouTube channel at this link and a downloadable PDF of the letter and social media resources are at this link or visit the CCCB website: www.cccb.ca
