Youth/Young Adult Ministry Coordinator

The Youth/Young Adult Ministry Coordinator, under the direction of the parish priest and SCG parish council, is responsible for growing and facilitating a dynamic and comprehensive youth ministry, for various age groups (middle school years, up to young adult), through engaging and connecting with young parishioners at church and the local Catholic schools, in collaboration with the established Kelowna Catholic Youth Group.

The goal is to engage and evangelize the Catholic youth and to nurture their spiritual growth and sense of community in the local Church. This role is integral in supporting the mission of the Nelson Diocese by guiding young Catholics on their faith journey, inspiring leadership development, and facilitating meaningful connections within the Catholic community.

Saint John of the Cross Parish, on the beautiful Eastern Shore, is seeking a dynamic and energetic faith-filled individual that likes a challenge and believes in contributing to a positive, supportive and hopeful future for youth and young families in their community.

Job summary

Working with our Pastor and Office Coordinator along with support and encouraged of a dedicated and spirit led group of retired professionals, your mission is to seek out and support the development of the next generation of missionary disciples residing within the parish boundary. Through an approach to active Evangelization, the parents of young people in the community will be your starting point as well as your ongoing support network. Many parents and grandparents struggle with finding ways to keep their children and grandchildren connected to their religion and faith and don't have someone to help them find and utilize the many tools that exist to support their children on their faith journey.  

The successful candidate will be a faith-based individual who is active in their Catholic faith and will have a familiarity with parish culture; will have a knowledge of faith formation programs for youth and adults within the Archdiocese; exceptional time management, organization and prioritization skills and an ability to influence people and demonstrate leadership skills.

This is a 9-month term position that may be extended if there is demonstrated progress being made to achieve the key deliverables. There are considerable flexibility and independence with this role.
