On Saturday, December 7, local alumni of St. Francis Xavier University, are invited to a special alumni Mass at being held at St. Agnes Church, Mumford Rd, in Halifax at 1:00pm.  Archbishop Emeritus Martin Currie will celebrate the Mass.  Gather with fellow X Alumni for a time of prayer and celebration. A reception will follow the Mass. All are welcome!

The Franciscans of Halifax invite you to join them on Saturday, December 21, 2024 a living nativity and the miracle at Greccio that was started by St. Francis of Assisi in Italy in 1223. The event will go from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and include a Christmas Gospel proclamation and carols.

Our Archdiocesan Feast Day is December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. On this day 13 years ago we became the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. Since this date falls on a Sunday this year, we will celebrate our patronal feast day on Monday, December 9.  Archbishop Dunn will celebrate Mass at 7:00pm at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica.  A reception will follow in the hall. All are welcome!

Please pray for Archbishop Dunn as he celebrates the sixteenth anniversary of his episcopal ordination on Wednesday, October 9! Parishes are asked to include an intention for Archbishop Dunn in the Universal Prayer at Mass (samples below).

On Sunday, October 6,  Pope Francis announced a Consistory for the creation of 20 new Cardinals from around the world to be held in Vatican City on December 8, 2024 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception). On that list of new cardinal is The Most Reverend Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto.  He will be among those elevated to the College of Cardinals and will become the 18th Cardinal in the history of the Catholic Church in Canada. With this appointment, Canada will now have five Cardinals.
