Each year the World Day of Migrants and Refugees invites us to turn our attention to different aspects of the complex phenomenon of migration. For this 112th World Day, the theme, “Even just one of these children,” draws our attention to the minors directly involved in the experience of migration and flight, to the care owed to them, and to the Lord’s promise that “whoever receives one such child in my name receives me” (Mk 9:37). For over 35 years, the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth has been actively involved in sponsoring refugees—restoring dreams, renewing hope, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with those forced to flee their homelands. Through this ministry, we have helped reunite families separated by conflict and accompanied many along their journey to safety and new life.

Prayer
Sacred Spirit, Living God, each member of our human family is an inseparable part of You. We lift up all migrant and refugee children who endure suffering, exploitation, and the anguish of separation. Empower our actions and prayers for justice, compassion, and grace, so that every child fleeing danger may find a safe haven and the opportunity to flourish. Amen
