Last week, Archbishop Dunn sent a letter to all clergy sharing the areas he is asking all the faithful to focus on this year. They are:
1. Evangelization
As follower of Christ we must proclaim Jesus Christ – it is a primary activity of our Church! Our parishes are being asked to develop a means to help the faithful proclaim the good news of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to all they meet.
2. Homelessness
Many Nova Scotians are without a home. Parishes have ministries that focus on reaching out to the poor and vulnerable. The faithful are invited to be more intentional in this ministry; identify what is currently being done and develop a plan for what more can be done. Archbishop Dunn encourages parishes to consider partnerships with other parishes, organizations, movements and others, to serve those in need.
3. Parish Identity
A year ago, new parishes were established and now the hard work of becoming a new parish begins.. This year parishes are being asked to delve deeper into the many communities that make up their one parish and take steps to developing a fuller sense of parish identity.
4. Catechesis
Forming one’s faith is key to being a disciple of Christ. This faith formation, or catechesis, needs to begin in childhood and continue into adulthood. As we mature so also must our faith. Archbishop Dunn invites the faithful to grow in closeness to the Lord and friendship with Him through study and encounter. Each parish is being asked to develop a plan for catechesis that supports faith formation for both children and adults.
