Dying with Christ, Living with Hope

Dying with Christ, Living with Hope

Should those who object to the practice of euthanasia for religious reasons have a say in whether or not Canada expands or restricts the current law? The answer is yes. The purpose of God’s commandments are to protect people at their most vulnerable. People experiencing vulnerabilities are less safe in our healthcare system when there is the constant temptation to take one’s life through euthanasia. This law affects each of us, our families, and our neighbours. As St. John Paul II said, “The Church proposes; she imposes nothing”. Christians have a responsibility to speak out on these issues and should also have the right.

From February 2-8, 2025 we’re invited to recognize National Catholic Health Care Week in Canada.

While in our Archdiocese there are no Catholic health care facilities, there are many many Catholic healthcare workers.  We want to recognize that their faith impacts the work they do. Let us pray for them in particular during National Catholic Health Care Week. The Catholic Health Alliance of Canada has produced resources for individuals, groups, and parishes to highlight this national week.

If I Choose MAiD Can I Still Have a Catholic Funeral?

The decision to die by euthanasia is contrary to the mission of Jesus Christ who came “that they might have life”. (Jn.10:10) While our culture would have us believe that euthanasia is a loving act that ends suffering, it is not what God wills for them. The world will be a much more impoverished place without their presence. We all grow in charity through our care for the most vulnerable.
