The Making of a Cardinal

On December 7, 2024 Canada was gifted with another Cardinal.  On that day Pope Francis elevated 21 new members to the College of Cardinals. The only North American was Most Reverend Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto.   Salt and Light TV produced a segment on now His Eminence Francis Cardinal Leo giving people a glimpse of the ceremony and what it takes to make a cardinal.  You can view the segment from Salt and Light’s weekly show Behold by clicking here.

This brings the total number of Canadian Cardinals to four. They are:

  • His Eminence Michael Cardinal Czerny, prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, Rome
  • His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto, Ontario
  • His Eminence Gérald Cardinal Lacroix, I.S.P.X, Archbishop of Québec
  • His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, Archbishop of Toronto, Ontario
  • His Eminence Marc Cardinal Ouellet, P.S.S., retired, Rome
