Pope Francis Announces Newest Canadian Cardinal

On Sunday, October 6,  Pope Francis announced a Consistory for the creation of 20 new Cardinals from around the world to be held in Vatican City on December 8, 2024 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception). On that list of new cardinal is The Most Reverend Francis Leo, Archbishop of Toronto.  He will be among those elevated to the College of Cardinals and will become the 18th Cardinal in the history of the Catholic Church in Canada. With this appointment, Canada will now have five Cardinals.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) published a media release about the appointment on Sunday.  It can be read by clicking here or by visiting: www.cccb.ca

Let us keep Archbishop Leo and the people of the Archdiocese of Toronto in our prayers as the Archbishop prepares to become Canada’s newest cardinal.
