The Human Resources office assists the Archdiocese in developing and maintaining a wholesome and healthy workplace for all who work together to further the mission of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. The Human Resources office is responsible for developing and updating policies and procedures affecting lay employees of the Archdiocese, both in parishes and at the Pastoral and Administration offices. Human Resources assists in the recruitment and selection of personnel at the Pastoral and Administrative offices and advises pastors and other administrative staff on recruitment, selection, employee relations, performance management, training and development and organizational development matters at the parish level. Human Resources also provides pay and benefits for the Pastoral and Administrative staff as well as a number of parishes, cleric, deacons, and staff of the archdiocese.

On Thursday last week, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) released a new document titled: Protecting Minors from Sexual Abuse: A call to the Catholic Faithful for Healing, Reconciliation, and Transformation. The 200 page document issues guidelines that aim to ensure that every Roman Catholic diocese across Canada develops strict protocols to safeguard minors and assist victims that come forward.

The Faith Formation Coordinator plays an essential role in the mission of the parish by growing the faith and assisting the parish in providing and incorporating catechetical, social, liturgical and service components to all parish ministries. While the primary focus is on children and youth programs, the faith formation coordinator will work with all parish ministries and programs to ensure grounding in Christ’s teaching to help all parishioners and guests live out the mission of the Church.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting faith formation initiatives, including children and youth ministries, adult faith formation, other ministries and small groups
  • Developing and executing processes for catechesis that prepare families for sacraments of initiation – Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and RCIA/OCIA
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential records of participants, sacramental preparation and program evaluations
  • Guiding people through their questions and concerns with pastoral sensitivity and tact
  • Playing an active role in the planning and delivery of parish events and training including, but not limited to, the parish mission, leadership summits, training of altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, lectors etc.
  • Creating and nurturing ministry leaders
  • Engaging, encouraging and mentoring volunteers
  • Working the Responsible Ministry contact in the parish, the Family Faith Coordination with ensure all faith formation volunteers meet the Responsible Ministry requirements as defined by the Archdiocesan Responsible Ministry Protocol

Reporting to the Pastor or his designate, the Faith Formation Coordinator is an integral member of the parish. The incumbent has extensive contact with clergy, parish staff, parishioners, volunteers and lay staff within the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious education or a demonstrated equivalent of experience and/or training
  • Practising Catholic, active in the church’s liturgical and sacramental life, with a proven spiritual life
  • Demonstrated positive experience working with children and youth with a passion for growing disciples of Jesus Christ
  • Experience in the delivery of catechesis and sacramental preparation
  • Proficiency in software programs such as Microsoft, Google docs
  • Superior communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills recognizing the different learning styles of people
  • Ability to be a team player with a commitment to the Parish Mission and a passion for parish renewal
  • Must be prepared, organized but adaptable enough to manage change
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required

This position is a part time position consisting of 25 hours a week. The wage is $23.00/hour.

Primary Functions of the Position 

The Alpha Coordinator at Saint Benedict Parish has a passionate desire for people to encounter Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. As such, the Alpha Coordinator will be responsible for running successful Alpha courses at the parish. It is the role of the Alpha Coordinator to call forth, equip, and lead the entire team of people who help to make each Alpha course a success (table, administrative, kitchen, hospitality, speakers, tech, etc.). The Alpha Coordinator sets the tone for the culture within the ministry, making each Alpha course a fun space of welcome, community, faith exploration, and encounter. The Alpha Coordinator is part of our staff team and will be supported by a Pastoral Director who sits on the Parish Leadership Team. The Alpha Coordinator works in alignment with the Pastor and the Parish Leadership Team and is expected to participate fully with the staff, including, but not limited to staff prayer, staff meetings, and Leadership Summits. They will work on site with some flexibility for remote working hours, including some evenings and weekends.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Growing the number of new Alpha team and Alpha guests, innovating according to Alpha best practices, new strategies for reaching the lost.
  • Leading the strategic direction of Alpha while developing a wider culture of evangelization in the parish.
  • Developing leaders through a leadership pipeline: identifying, inviting, and supporting people to serve at Alpha courses with increasing responsibility and authority.
  • Working closely with the Life Group Coordinator to ensure that Alpha graduates are invited to go deeper in their discipleship after going through the Alpha pipeline.
  • Tracking the Alpha guest and team metrics in our Church Suite database
  • Maintaining the metrics of Alpha courses run at the parish

Job Summary:

Paroisse Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is a vibrant and welcoming community dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and providing support to all members. The Parish Secretary is responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to support the smooth operation of the parish.

The position requires 20 hours per week, Tuesdays to Fridays; 9 a.m. to 2p.m.

Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Typing and printing the church bulletin.
  • Creating and managing mass schedules, as well as coordinating priest schedules.
  • Answering phones, checking emails, and relaying messages to the appropriate staff members.
  • Printing Baptismal and marriage certificates.
  • Assisting priests and deacons in connecting with funeral homes for funeral details.
  • Keeping parish registers up to date and assisting with research in parish registers for parishioners.
  • Ordering candles, church envelopes, hosts, wine, and other necessary supplies.
  • Maintaining constant communication with the bookkeeper, informing them about all deposits and collection counts weekly.
  • Keeping in contact with all committee members and attending monthly Pastoral committee meetings.
  • Performing sundry duties as needed to support the parish's operations.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12, plus administrative diploma or degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  
  • Previous experience in an administrative or clerical role, preferably within a church or non-profit setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in the French language is required
  • Understanding and support of the mission of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth
  • Good problem-solving – ability to resolve complex issues and unforeseen obstacles quickly and efficiently
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, structure, and culture
  • Must meet the Archdiocesan Responsible Ministry Protocol requirements.
