You’re invited to our Eucharistic Congress!

Upon returning from a meeting of International Eucharistic Congress delegates in Ecuador in September 2023 International Eucharistic Gathering in Sept2024(see picture), Archbishop Dunn was inspired to host a local Eucharistic Congress in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth. There has been a practice in our diocese to host an annual Assembly of the People of God; a time to gather a diocesan family to pray, reflect, learn, and celebrate the goodness of God being witnessed across our local Church. For 2024, that the annual diocesan gathering will be a Eucharistic Congress. The focus of this gathering will be on creating an opportunity for the spiritual renewal of the people and parishes of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth…and beyond.

Archbishop Dunn would be delighted for you to join him from October 17-20 for our first Eucharistic Congress in the Archdioceses of Halifax-Yarmouth!

Welcome Blessed Carlo Acutis!

On Wednesday, October 16 we will welcome the relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis to the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth with a Liturgy of Welcome at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica at 7:00pm.  There will be an opportunity to venerate the relics that evening.  All are welcome!

Other opportunities to venerate the relic:

  • Pre-Congress Youth Night – Thursday, October 17 at 7:00pm PLEASE NOTE: this event is for youth and young adults ages 14-35 only
  • Before the Eucharistic Congress – Friday, October 18 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica from 9:00am to 12:00 noon
  • Eucharistic Congress attendees will have opportunities to venerate Blessed Carlo at the Congress
  • After the Congress – Sunday, October 20 at Saint Agnes Church from 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Blessed Carlo will then continue a short Canadian tour by going on to the Diocese of Antigonish, followed by the Archdiocese of Saint John’s, and finish his visit in  the Archdiocese of Ottawa.

Carlo Acutis was born 1991 and died in 2006. He was diagnosed with leukemia as a teenager. From a young age, Carlo had a special love for God, even though his parents weren’t especially devout. After he made his first Communion, he went to Mass as often as possible at the parish across from his elementary school. Carlo’s love for the Eucharist inspired a deep conversion for his mother and several other people in his life.

This is Blessed Carlo’s first visit to Canada and we are excited to welcome him as part of our Youth Night and the Eucharistic Congress.
