On August 10, 2024 Archbishop Dunn will ordain Charley Vaughan to the diaconate. The ordination will take place at 10:00am at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. You are invited to join in the event to celebrate this new chapter in Charley’s ministry.
Charley was born in Halifax, the youngest of three children of Charles and Shirley. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Halifax and went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University. In his professional career, he worked in sales in a number of different industries, and retired in 2021.
He resides in Cole Harbour with his wife Wendy, where they have been active members of Divine Mercy Parish for over three decades. In 2016, Charley helped to found FM645, a Men’s Group at Divine Mercy Parish where Catholic men have an opportunity to share faith and fellowship each week.
Charley and Wendy have three adult sons, Will, Alex, and Matt, as well as two daughters-in-law and two grandchildren.
We invite you to pray for Charley and his family as he prepares to be ordained a deacon for service and ministry in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth.

* Prayer to Know One's Vocation
Lord, my God and my loving Father, you have made me to know you,
to love you, to serve you, and thereby to find and to fulfill myself.
I know that you are in all things, and that every path can lead me to you.
But of them all, there is one especially by which you want me to come to you.
Since I will do what you want of me, I pray you, send your Holy Spirit to me:
into my mind, to show me what you want of me; into my heart,
to give me the determination to do it, and to do it with all my love,
with all my mind, and with all my strength right to the end.Amen

* Discernment Community Application
"A place where people gather to freely discern their vocation to holiness and mission."Holy Cross Chaplaincy exists to live lifelong community, giving students an experience of relationship that lays deep roots for their whole life long. The Household Program is more than a place to live; it is a way of life meant to form young people into lifelong relationship and fulfilling vocation. It’s the heart of our community and the primary place we live out our “why.” Participants in the household program commit to three ideals:
- Deep relationship with God
- Healthy community life with each other and the outside community
- Vocational discernment
These three things, lived well, hopefully help to form program participants into activated parish leaders, fulfilled in their vocations.

* Vocation to the Priesthood
“The priesthood is not a career, it is way of being.
It is a life of sacrifice and service because it is the life of our Lord.“
Vocations Centre Sydney- Every Catholic man, at one point in his life should consider a Vocation to the Priesthood, even if he is not intending to become a priest.
- Many men today, do not have a clear understanding of what a Priest is, and what it means to be a Priest.
- Being a Priest means devoting yourself to the people of God, to be their Shepherd at all points of their life.
