Helping the Homeless

A year ago, we recognized the growing homelessness crisis in the province. To answer the need for shelter, the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth began an Emergency Shelters Project. Through this initiative we created 20 temporary shelters and placed them at parishes around the diocese. These became places for people experiencing homelessness to call home, albeit temporarily, for the winter months. We were able to do this because of the generosity of people like you.

It is estimated that 586 people continue to experience homelessness in HRM. We extended and expanded our initiative in the spring by hiring a coordinator to help our occupants access social supports and find housing. The people in need of housing need support in so many ways. We want to be a bridge to help them not only find a more sustainable housing option but also build a better life.
