Catechetics
The Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth views catechesis as an integral to the New Evangelization and Re-Founding the Church. Catechesis is a life long journey and relationship with the God who made us and this relationship must be continually nourished throughout the course of our lives.
As Catechists, we all have the important task of helping those we instruct in the Faith to come to know Jesus Christ personally, and to help develop and foster this personal relationship with Him in those we encounter in our everyday lives.
Catechesis is an ever evolving and changing ministry in order to meet the needs of an ever evolving and changing society but always remembering that the core teachings of the Church remain unchanged. Adapting to these changes requires that we make changes in the way we instruct and the products we use, this is why the Archdiocese is currently looking at new and updated programs that will be used to help develop a personal and long lasting relationship with Christ.
It is essential that as Catechists we recognize and acknowledge that, while related, there is a distinction between lifelong catechesis and proximate Sacramental preparation.
