Happy Diocesan Feast Day!

Come and celebrate our diocesan feast day!

On the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, we celebrate our diocesan feast day!  We also recognize and celebrate with our Acadian parishes, La Fête national de l’Acadie!  To celebrate Archbishop Dunn will preside at a Mass at 12:00 noon.  The Mass will be followed by a BBQ in the courtyard between the church and the glebe.  All are welcome!

At the request of members of our Mi’kmaq communities, Archbishop Dunn will offer the 12:15 Mass on Saturday, July 15 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica for all involved in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).  All are welcome!

Halifax will host the 10th NAIG from July 15-23.   There will be competitions in 16 sports within 21 venues across Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Dartmouth, Millbrook First Nation and Sipekne'katik. NAIG 2023 will bring together more than 5,000 athletes, coaches and team staff from 756+ Indigenous Nations celebrating, sharing and reconnecting through sport and culture with the help of 3,000 volunteers.  For more information visit: https://naig2023.com/

August 15: Our Diocesan Feast Day

August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption – and our diocesan feast day! As we celebrate the assumption of Mary into heaven body and soul, we seek her intercession and guidance for the faithful of our whole Archdiocese.

To celebrate our feast day, Archbishop Dunn will celebrate Mass at 12 noon on August 15 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral.  The Mass will be followed by a BBQ in the courtyard between the church and the glebe.  All are welcome!

Pope Francis inaugurated this World Day to be celebrated by the universal Church each July, either on or near the liturgical Memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, grandparents of Jesus, to help “treasure the spiritual and human wealth that has been handed down from generation to generation”.
