September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  Locally, Holy Apostles Parish will recognize that day with a Mass and Prayers at 10:00am that day:

WHERE: St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, Tantallon
WHAT: Mass with prayer and blessing in the Sacred Garden to follow
WHY: To continue on our journeys of truth and reconciliation
WHO: All people.

Anyone coming to the event is invited to collect a “Heart Stone” from our beaches to be placed with our tree of remembrance. Hospitality to follow.

Nationally, Truth and Reconciliation Day will be observed on Monday, October 2.  The Catholic Diocesan Centre in downtown Halifax will close Monday afternoon for staff to attend a learning session on Mi’kmaw history and culture.

Sunday, October 1:  Treaty Day in Nova Scotia

For the past few years, the pandemic has stopped many of the traditional Treaty Day activities,  including a Treaty Day Mass, from happening.  However, this year, Treaty Day will be recognized and celebrated in the context of the regularly scheduled 10:30am Mass at Saint Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. Members of the Mi’kmaq community will take part in various ministries during the Mass and the Grand Chief and Council members will be present.   All are welcome! The Mass will be  livestreamed and can be viewed at: https://livestream.com/halifaxyarmouth/cathedral

There are a number of activities planned for Treaty Day.  Click here (pdf) to view a Treaty Day poster listing a variety of events.
