Eco Justice

Pope Francis used strong words during his recent visit to Africa. He stated that the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been massively plundered and has not benefited adequately from its immense resources. The Global North competes for  Congo's mineral resources which are sought after for the transition to green energy, resulting in a bitter dehumanization of the Congolese people and  a lack of respect for human rights. The country's oil supply and forests are also being depleted without adequate consideration for the local communities' survival or peace. Pope Francis charged the country's leaders to be good stewards of their land, which he said serves as one of the great green lungs of the world.
